Nicolai Helius AM! Version…Something.

March 30, 2010

Readers of our blog would probably remember Jansen’s Helius AM. This tailor made frame came with Jansen’s request for an ‘extra sloping’ top tube (for better clearance) and it was the first in Singapore. It has gone through many transformations in terms of changes in components, but none like this. This Helius AM is now Rohloff equipped!

Easton EA70 Monkey Bars. Thomson stem. Magura Marta SL’s. NS Martin Soderstrom grips.

DT Swiss EXC 150 fork. Stan’s No Tubes ZTR Flow’s laced to Hope Pro 2’s with Pillar Ti spokes.

DT Swiss EX 200 shock.

Truvativ Noir cranks. Blackspire bashring. Middleburn 32T chainring. NS Aerial Pro pedals.

Paul tensioner.

The Rohloff Speedhub! 14 speeds of internally geared bliss in this hub! The Speedhub is laced to Stan’s No Tubes ZTR Flow rims with Pillar Ti spokes as well. By the way, new seatstays had to be ordered from Nicolai in order to run the hub.

The shifter is commonly mounted on the right side, but Jansen likes it this way on the left side.

We kept the cable routing as clean/neat as we possibly could. This Trialtech chainstay protector sure came in handy.

    Hi

I am about buying a Helius AC and I will also be running a Rohloff hub that I already have.
    Some questions:
why do you use a Paul tensioner and not the one from Rohloff?
What do you mean with “new seatstays had to be ordered from Nicolai in order to run the hub”?? What’s the seatstays??
… and why did you not pass the Rohloff cables under the down tube??

    Thanks for your help,
    Hugo

    Dear Hugo,

    Thanks for your mail.

We used the PAUL Rear Tensioner as our Rohloff tensioner hasnt arrived. It works perfectly as well, has the same tensioning force compared to the Rohloff.

We had to order new Rear-Swing arms as the previous setup of the NICOLAI HeliusAM was running a rear 12mm Thru Axle hub system. As our Rohloff hub does not have a 12mm system, we had to change out the Rear Swing arms to conventional Vertical Drop-Outs.

The Shifter cables had to be guided on the top as this frame is a custom-geometry spec. And did not have the appropriate cable guides on the downtube. And also our customer is happy having all the cables to be guided along the same path. 🙂

    Hope this helps you.

    Cheers
    Han
